That's a better explanation of "my last" than the one that first 
occurred to me -- the obvious [sic] one: "my last letter to you."

It also puts Petunia more into the magic world (and thereby the 
story) than we might have thought.

But! It still seems awkward for him to refer to the last heir of 
Gryffindor as "his" last.  I do appreciate the thought, and am eager 
for more. 

My personal thought is that "my last" refers to a missive from him to 
Petunia which we have not heard about, for whatever tantalizing 
plotline reason.
