You know Marc, that was the first thing I thought, too. Snape yelling
at Lily to get out of the house to rescue herself or something. But
then this definitely can't be. First of all, Baby Harry, was well,
just a baby. So how could he sit in a corner and cry? He'd be more
likely in his little bed sleeping. Second reason: Lily doesn't seem
to be a submissive character. I just can't imagine her "cowering"
while Snape was shouting at her. More likely she'd just shout back or
(better) put a charm ( which her wand was very good for, SS) or hex
on him to stop shouting.
I just think Snape was a mistreated child, the poor thing :)

This description is from Harry's POV:

*...and suddenly Harry's mind was teeming with memories that were not
his...

He was sure he had just broken into Snape's memories, that he had
just seen scenes from Snape's childhood, and it was unnerving to
think that the crying little boy who had watched his parents shouting
was actually standing in front of him....*

Harry also sees a greasy-haired teenager alone in a dark bedroom and
a scrawny boy trying to mount a bucking broomstick. These are all bad
memories that belong to Snape. This is an opportunity for us to get a
glimpse of his childhood and events that helped shape his life.

Surely Harry would recognize if the man was Snape and the woman his
mother. I'm not saying it's not possible for Snape to have been at
the Potter's house. I just don't think this is what Harry is seeing
at this time.

By the way, how soon before Harry will be able to read the minds of
others? Surely he will find he has that ability.

Magicalme:

magicalme (who greatly supports Snape and thinks that being terribly
humiliated in front of the whole school at age fifteen by the coolest
people in the school may well be the very worst memory, well the most
humiliating anyway)

Thank goodness there are others who think this was a very humiliating
event.
