The second spell's colour is not indicated. ("The second jet of
light hit him squarely on the chest. The laughter had not quite died
from his face, but his eyhes widened in shock." Oop UK p. 710)
Is there canon to support that only Avada Kedavra can kill (not
saying there must be, just wondering)?
Also, "Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his
godfather's wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the
ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil..." (Oop UK p. 711)
Unless I'm missing an earlier reference in the battle scene I am led
to take the phrase "wasted, once-handsome face" to indicate that
death had occurred.
3. Also, Remus never says Sirius is "dead", just "d---", it

I don't want to press this issue as until JKR gives us greater
detail I think both views (before the veil versus after the veil)
could be inferred, but I'm sticking with the former. Harry's denial
and interruption of Lupin is based solely on his lack of habeus
corpus.
It strikes, however, that speculation about disembodied or doomed
carries with it a suppressed hope that Sirius might return --
something that JKR has told us will not happen.
In any event, whether before the veil or after the veil we can, I
hope, all agree that after the veil Sirius was and remains dead.
M.E.
