How can James' heart be considered good and warm in this scene? Even if he
is trying to impress Lily or teach Snape a lesson about being evil, what
about what happens after Lily leaves? Instead of leaving Snape alone to
reflect upon his evil ways after this supposed lesson you'd have him
teaching the vile rascal, James turns him upside down again and threatens to
strip off his underwear - and furthermore, he's seeking encouragement from
the crowd of watchers to do so? This is pure and simple bullying and
grandstanding.
