Now I was actually rather *disturbed* by that scene, especially after
I thought about it a bit. Yes, it got that Odious Umbridge Woman
(from here on out known as OUW) taken care of for the rest of the
book, but Hermione *knew* that the Centaurs were less than pleased
with the humans and threatened any to come into the forest. After
all, Harry and Hermione got out without harm earler because they
were "foals" and only left safely then because of Grawp. Hermione
didn't exactly think that one through and did *willfully and
knowingly* put OUW into severe danger. I am curious to learn what
Dumbledore said to her later. You know he had to have words with
young Ms. Granger about it. It distressed me more than Harry's
Crucio on Bellatrix, after all, he had just lost Sirius...
And having just re-read the bullying scene of Snape's worst memory, I
have to say that although James did seem a bit of a git, at first all
he did was Expelliarmus and Impediementia. Snape, OTH, cursed James
while his back was turned AND physically harmed James. "...there was
a flash of light and a gash appeared on the side of James's face,
spattering his robes with blood." James showed at least *some* self
control in that his retaliation was only turning Snape upside down.
Not to say that I didn't feel sorry for the 15 yo Snape, but in
recent discussions Snape's actions have been overlooked. I still say
he needs to get over his anti-James/Harry gripe and accept that Harry
is not his father. Snape is an ADULT for heaven's sake! Just my
opinion, anyhow.
