Damn. I thought I'd gotten away with that. *pouts*
Okay, how I read it was that James already had his wand out when he called
out to Snape. Harry commented on Snape's speed and I think he would have
said something about James too if James had been even faster. Another thing
is that Snape only got his wand half raised, so he had no chance of actually
casting a spell on James. So, basically I see what James did as pretty much
the same as attacking from behind because, if Snape was so fast, James would
have had to start his incantation right after he had called out, just as
Snape had the chance to register what James had said. It was just shorter
and more poignant to say "attack from behind"...
