The canon indicates that the Lovegoods live "walking distance" from the
Weasleys, or their name wouldn't have come up in the discussion. As the
Diggory's appear to have walked for a number of hours, it is difficult to
say just how much area "the area" encompasses, but it seems clear that this
would have been the Lovegoods' local Portkey had they not had to arrive at
the QWC so early (due to having cheap seats, as was already pointed out).
While they may or not live two streets away, I'd say there's good evidence
they don't live on the other side of Britain from one another. So, the
comment "live relatively close together" seems to be accurate.
Cheers!

Two comments - one obvious when you think about it and the other a stretch..
Hmmmm who are the Lovegoods that the Weasleys met (GOF 73) and how are they
related to Luna ?
Her dad is still alive .... her mom is dead (OOP 863).
Did her dad remarry ? I am not sure about British formality but I would
think that "the Lovegoods" refers to husband and wife rather than father
daughter. If so, then Luna has a step-mom................ who so far not
been identified.
In OOP 10 year old Mark Evans (OOP 13) is mentioned as a kid that Dursley
beats up ..... {big stretch here but would be obvious if this is a future
plot point} ..... we all know that Evans is Harry's Mum's maiden name
.... would it be that far fetched if someone in his Mom's family married
Luna's dad and kept her maiden name ???? This is not all that uncommon in
second marriages in the US and I am assuming the same in the UK ......
Though Luna never mentions that she had a step-brother to Harry, they didnt
really know each other very well until the end of OOP so there wouldn't be
any reason for her to mention it.
That said, I wouldn't exactily fall off my chair if this relationship was
later revealed because it could end up being an even stronger link to Harry
and give him at least some semblence of family that was destroyed by
Voldemort and the Death Eaters. .
Any thoughts on the matter ?
