We know that James fought Voldemort, but for how long before he was
killed? Voldemort has shown that when he has a plan of action he is
pretty quick to kill. ex: 'Kill the Spare' and how quickly he went
for the kill in OOP.
We know that James and Lily's bodies and Harry were all found inside
the wreck of the house.
We don't know how big the house is. Is it a cottage or a castle or
some size in between. How far did Lily have to run to get out the
back door. I doubt she could have just ran under Voldemort's arm and
gotten out of the house that way.
We don't know if anyone else came with Voldemort that night, most
seem to assume someone else had to be there. How do we know that
there wasn't a DE standing at the back door keeping her from running
out that way.
My point is that I have found no canon proof to say that Lily didn't
try to get away. This is another one of those things that, to me
anyway, will have to be put in writing before I will believe her not
running had something to do with the 'old magic' that protected Harry
from Voldemort. I personally think that she did try to run she just
didn't get very far, but then I also believe that she had her wand.
After all they know Voldemort is after them, seems to me if your
being hunted and know it you would sleep with that wand under your
pillow and have it with you at all times.

I agree with you Karen. I think she ran to another room. I see no
reason why she wouldn't have had her wand either. I also think that
someone else was at Godric's Hollow besides James, Lily, and Harry.

By the way, I reread the Godric's Hollow sections from OOTP. It is
interesting that Harry only hears voices, we don't actually see his
parents or Voldemort.

On page 240, U.S., paperback:
"Lily take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off--" The
sounds of someone stumbling from a room--a door bursting open--a
cackle of high-pitched laughter--

Harry hears a male voice yelling for Lily to run, and Harry assumes
that this is his father's voice. Is it though? Could it be someone
else?

How about Lupin's response to Harry?

"I heard my dad," Harry mumbled. "That's the first time I've ever
heard him--he tried to take on Voldemort himself, to give my mum time
to run for it..."

"You heard James?" said Lupin in a strange voice. (page 241)

At what point in time did everyone know that the prophecy was about
Harry? According to the books, DD only realized it was about Harry
after Voldemort's attack at Godric's Hollow. So, were any other male
children being protected at this time? Did they have a secret keeper?
(How about the year this child was born? Why mention the month but
not the year? Is there someone else out there in the WW that may have
been born in the same month as Harry and Neville but is perhaps
younger? Like, for instance, the Evans kid from the begining of OOTP?)

And below:

"Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead--" (page 179)
Was Lily aware of the prophecy? Did DD tell James and not Lily? Did
Lily think it was about someone else?

I think that Lily, out of desperation, sacrificed herself to save her
son; but I do not think that it was pre-planned. I think it was
something that she did spur-of-the-moment.

What about the 24 hours of missing time between the actual event and
when Harry is dropped off at the Dursley's? Did anyone try to change
the events of that night by using a time-turner?

I know I'm guessing about everything -- and I'm sure that I'm
probably wrong about it all. I just wondered if anyone had any better
theories...
