shoot down my guesses or add your own. Here goes...OotP spoilers
mind!

I agree about the impatience! I'm finding that I'm frequently
checking www.the-leaky-cauldron.org for news about book 6. Nothing
yet...

> #1: Harry fails to get 'Outstanding' in his Potion's OWL, but gets
into NEWT Potions anyway thanks to a new, more understanding Potions
Master or Mistress (Tonks perhaps? She must be good at Potions
seeing as she's an Auror and all).
>

I think I agree with Mo, that he'll do well on his potions OWL. He
was making some pretty good potions at the end of book 5, when he
put his mind to it.

> #2: Snape on the other hand is finally given the DADA job, as DD
accepts that Snape won't let it "bring out the worst in him", and
pupils are v. behind anyway so they need someone highly skilled (I
always assumed he would get the job towards the end of the series
ever since we were first told he wants it, and especially since
Umbridge inspected his class).
>

There have been conversations about the DADA position. Every one has
been a new character to the story, so far. Also Harry has met, in
some way (whether he was aware of it or not), every single one
before the start of term. So I think we'll meet someone new early in
book 6 who will turn out to be the teacher. Poor Snape. Passed over
again.

> #3: Harry resumes Occlumency lessons, whether with Snape or DD I'm
not sure, but it's more important than ever that Harry learns to
block LV from his mind, esp. since that vision of Sirius. Although
LV must know Harry mightn't fall for other visions again, we know
it's possible for LV to get information through Harry. *If
Dumbledore does teach Harry Occlumency, it would be a great
opportunity to learn more about DD, who we know surprisingly little
about. Which brings me to my next prediction...
>

I agree. I kinda hope he continues with Snape, but wouldn't be
surprised if it's DD. Maybe Lupin steps in for special lessons? At
the Shrieking Shack?

> #4: DD will be killed in the fight against LV after we've found
out more about his background. Last time we found out a lot about
someones history was with Sirius, and he was killed off <sob>. Maybe
the same will happen with DD? That would leave the Order in some
trouble for book 7!
>

I agree with Mo again. DD will probably be around at least until the
end. He's the one who keeps the mystery unfurling through the series.

> #5: We will find out about Hogwart's staff's spouses. As JK said,
a few of them have had spouses, information which is "sort of
restricted", and I'm betting we'll discover that DD had a muggle
wife years ago but outlived her. Also, maybe Snape fell for and even
married a muggle female, but she was murdered post-Voldemort when
Deatheaters were still murdering muggles. Is this part of the story
he told DD for him to trust him?
>

I have such a hard time picturing Snape married! Yikes! But maybe he
was a better person before and something horrible that happened to
his wife is what has helped make him so obstinately bitter now. We
don't know that he was complete jerk before. Only that he was in
regards to James and Co., and frankly, he had good reason. DD with a
muggle wife I can picture.

> #6: Harry discovers the average wizard's lifespan at last.
>

Cute!

> #7: Ron finally kisses Hermione!

I can see it. If they get together and then break up, it's going to
be hard on the dynamics between the threesome.

>
> #8: Deatheaters inevitably breakout of Azkaban and rejoin LV.
Lucius Malfoy leads a wave of muggle torture and murder, the
beginnings of which Harry hears about on the news at Privet Drive
before the new school year (I'm sure I read somewhere JK said
muggles would notice more happenings in the next book).
>

I can see this too. I'm not convinced they'll break out as early as
Privet Drive, but I can believe they'll be out in book 6.

> #9: This is the last straw for Fudge, and he resigns as MoM before
he's sacked for not acknowledging LV's return in the first place.
He's surprised when DD refuses to take the job as MoM, but he can't
leave Hogwarts as Voldemort would jump at the chance to control the
school with DD gone. Instead Arthur Weasley is surprisingly voted in!
>

I would be surprised if Arthur Weasley was voted in! Otherwise, I
don't have much feel for what Fudge is going to do.

> #10: In the annual end-of-term showdown with LV, Harry comes face
to face with Snape (being the spy of course), whom he must trust in
order to escape. Harry's Occlumency skills will come in handy here
too, so as not to reveal Snape's true loyalty.
>

This would be very cool, in my opinion. I'm convinced he's a double-
agent and it would be a very interesting way to reveal this to the
readers.

> So there you have it, ten perhaps far-fetched predictions for book
6! Sorry if they've come up before, I haven't had a chance to read
all the posts. So what do you think? Any other ideas?
>

I'm also leaning towards the speculation made by others that there
will be an attack at Hogwarts itself, possibly in book 6. There's
gotta be a bigger role that Marauder's Map is going to play, beyond
a tool to help students into mischief.

A thought occurred to me about book 7 -- I wonder if the final
showdown between Harry and LV will take place at Privet Drive? DD
said something that jumped out at me in book 5, during his regular,
end-of-book "debriefing" of Harry. He admitted that all the charms
and spells he could have put on Harry could not have guaranteed his
protection. To quote, "I knew that even my most complex and powerful
protective spells and charms were unlikely to be invincible if he
[LV] ever returned to full power."

But he made it clear that Voldemort can't hurt him at his aunt and
uncle's house, as long as he can call it home. "While you can still
call home the place where your mother's blood dwells, there you
cannot be touched or harmed by Voldemort." This isn't anything new.
We've heard DD say it before. But that's what also caught me -- the
repetition of that piece of information.

I doubt LV knows this, so wouldn't it be cool for the OotP or Harry
himself to lure him there?
