I thougt the explanation for the kids' presense in GP was pretty 
obvious, but maybe I missed something? It seems clear that once the 
DEs discover the Weasleys are on DD's side (which was almost 
immediatly if Arthur and Molly were standing guard around the 
Ministry and the DoM) their kids would become likely targets. Same 
thing re Hermione because Wormtail knows that she is Harry's close 
friend.
