Doesn't Ollivander say he remembers when Lily bought her "first"
wand? Does that mean she bought another one later? Could it be that
the wand that's perfect for you at 11 isn't always the best wand when
you're 35 or 70 or 100?
Now, Ollivander believes the wand choses the wizard and goes through
a lot of wands to find just the right one for Harry. Some people do
that with tennis rackets or baseball bats too. Others use whatever
is in the basement. I get the feeling there is a difference of
opinion on this topic amoung the WW. Although I think Ollivander is
probably right.
How long your wand would last might depend on well you take care of
it. And whether you just need another one may depend on the fit in
the first place.
BTW, isn't Ron's new wand also unicorn hair?
