I agree that she gave him what she thought was the best wand, as I
said in my earlier post. I also agree that he wasn't "given" a
challenged memory to help him. In fact, I don't think we can assume,
or need to assume, that a spell is involved at all. The poor memory
could be emotional damage, post-traumatic stress syndrome or something
similar. Or it could be his subconscious mind protecting him from
painful memories. Possibly the suppressed memories are starting to
come back (as Harry's did through the Dementors) as a result of seeing
the spider Crucio'd in DADA class. We've already seen Neville's
competence and confidence improve. I think his memory will as well.
