AmanitaMuscaria again : Well, a couple of things that come to mind -
Snape often seems to 'appear', certainly around Harry when there's
something going on, so even if he isn't transforming into a
flowering shrub ;-) he may be able to self-efface and slip by people
without being noticed (except when he wants to be, of course).
The other thought is Legilimency/Occlumency. Both Dumbledore and
Snape are skilled at this - maybe there's communication between them,
or there may be a 'calling mirror' available to staff that allows
them to let DD know what's going on.
I doubt very much Snape went wandering round the castle or the
Forbidden Forest looking for Dumbledore.
On this theme, does anyone else remember another time when someone
was supposedly looking for Harry and couldn't find him? The only one
I could think of is when Harry & Hermione take Umbridge into the
Forest - I always presumed that when Snape said he looked for them,
he didn't look very hard, but what if he did, but couldn't find them
for some reason, like, say, he hadn't got his wand on him? What I'm
saying is, I think DD and SS keep VERY close tabs on where Harry is -
whether they do anything about it is another matter, or whether DD is
otherwise occupied and then SS can vent some anger on Harry ...
Cheers. AmanitaMuscaria
