In my post I went the other way, ie: Kreacher destroyed the portrait 
of Phineas.  I must say I like your way better.  Imagine the enraged 
Mrs. Black ordering Kreacher to perform a severing charm on his own 
neck..."lovely".  It would also be interesting to have the Order 
return to Grimauld place to find it sparkling clean and full of 
welcoming voices instead of crazed screaming.  I do think this is a 
stretch though.  Regardless of how angry the Mrs. might be at 
Kreacher for alowing  her son to be killed, I can't imagine she would 
be too happy to have Lupin in her house.  

Maybe I prefer to see Kreacher spruced up and required to keep the 
house impecable for their guests, under the ever watchful eye of a 
wand carrying portrait of Mrs. Black.

So much to think about...
