True, Lupin said he would talk to Snape, and I admit, it's not clear
that he actually did that. But it does seem reasonably clear that
Sirius and/or Lupin mentioned what happened to Dumbledore because
Dumbledore is aware of what happened when he and Harry have their end
of book 'heart-to-heart'.

I suspect Lupin talked to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore's response was to
let it go. Given the circumstances at the castle, there wasn't much
they could do, and in addition, I suspect it simply confirmed a
suspicion that Dumbledore had all along. That suspicion was that Harry
and Snape would eventually have a falling out that would prevent the
lessons from continuing. He certainly hoped it would not come to that,
but equally, he knew the possibility was there.

And for the record, I'm not buying Dodge!Lupin any more than I'm
buying ESE!Lupin.
