Kneasy:
OK. What we know:
1. Only the Secret Keeper can divulge the secret.
2. You only need to be told the secret once to be able to use it
repeatedly.
3. Even if you accompany someone privy to the secret to the 'hidden'
location, you cannot 'see' it until the Keeper reveals the location
to you.
4. Revealing the location need not be done in person. It can be in
the form of a written message handed on by a third party.
5. You divulge the secret to those you trust.

<snip> The circle can be quite wide but only one person can admit
anyone new - the Keeper. But it's possible that new admitees do not
know who the SK is, just as Harry did not know that DD is SK for GP
when handed the paper by Moody.

celletiger:
I also really like Kneasy's theory that Lupin was at GH on
Halloween. The reason why I think its plausible is because of what
Steve said: "the Secret Keeper is ALLOWED to reveal the secret."
<snip> Peter had the power to tell *whoever* he wanted about the
Potter's whereabouts - tell friends or foes. It was his
responsibility to keep the secret. He didn't.

To resolve the events at GH:
1)Lupin is unsuccessful at holding off LV, but LV is vaporized
anyway.
2)Lupin finds baby Harry alive and immediately calls Sirius, their
best bud.
3)When Sirius gets to GH on the bike, Lupin leaves to tell DD.

Bookworm:
There was suspicion there was a spy in the Order, so to effectively
hide the Potters and Longbottoms, the circle would fairly small. It
is possible that Remus was in Godric's Hollow that night (point #1),
but celletiger's 2nd and 3rd points contradict canon.

In the Shrieking Shack, unless they were both acting, neither Sirius
nor Remus said anything about having seen each other at Godric's
Hollow. The tone of their conversation sounded like they hadn't seen
each other since before the attack. Sirius said that he had gone to
see Peter and when Peter wasn't home he went straight to GH. So
unless Sirius was lying, Lupin didn't call Sirius.

Remus and Sirius suspected each other of betraying the Potters. I
think Remus would remember that Peter was the one who told him where
the Potters were, even if he didn't know Peter was the Secret
Keeper. Remus might have been the one to tell Dumbledore (and if
Remus is not ESE, it helps explain why Dumbledore trusts him) but
Hagrid would have seen Remus greet Sirius; IIRC, Hagrid was already
there when Sirius arrived.

AS I said up-thread, someone knows something and isn't telling. I've
been trying to think who it might be. Who would be willing to keep
quiet and let Sirius go to prison without saying anything? Snape,
perhaps? I'm convinced Dumbledore knows what happened that night but
has kept quiet. And I'm pretty sure it is somehow connected to
Snape's return from the Dark Side. I'm still working on
the 'somehow'...
