<snip> If I'm not mistaken 13 year old Harry saved Sirius, who was
also an accomplished wizard. <

DuffyPoo:
We must remember there were two Harrys present that night. One on each side of the lake. The one who truly conjured the Patronus was in no danger from the Dementors, as they were all on the other side of the lake with the 'other' Harry and Sirius. (Man I hate TT.) "And there were the Dementors. They were emerging out of the darkenss from every direction, gliding around the edges of the lake ... they were moving *away from where Harry stood,* to the opposite bank ... he wouldn't have to get near them..." This Harry, this Harry on this side of the lake, was in no danger from the Dementors and could easily produce a Patronus.

The Harry with the Dementors was only in danger of having his soul sucked out, not death.
