I think Harry's childhood influences him a lot more than we give it 
credit for.  Reading the first several chapters of SS/PS, we see that 
one of Aunt Petunia's favorite sayings is "Don't ask questions."  I 
believe that this mantra (along with several others from his 
childhood) was forced upon Harry so often, that he still 
subconciously follows it.
