Question: Has Snape ever picked on Ron in class?

Hey, John.  You're absolutely right that there are points in the 
books where people talk about "everyone knowing" Snape fancies that 
DADA job, and you're right that Snape answered Umbridge's questions 
about applying for the job with affirmatives.

Some of us, however, believe that it's *possible* that the 
application for the DADA position & the non-squashing of the rumors 
that Snape's after the job are simply part of the ruse Snape & DD 
keep up to present a certain image of Snape to the DEs/DE's kids.  
(Kind of like those who believe Snape's unfair treatment of 
Harry/the Gryffindors and favoritism towards Draco/his Slytherin 
cronies is also part of that act.)

Personally, after that speech Snape gave in our crew's first year, 
I'm not sure I'll ever believe he doesn't *really* want to teach 
Potions.
