I don't think the school knows any such thing. As I've posted
eslewhere, DD seems concerned to protect Ginny and to make sure she is
not punished for being a victim of Riddle/Voldemort. The details given
at the celebratory banquet are very limited and neither the basilisk
nor Riddle/Voldemort is mentioned--only Harry and Ron as Ginny's
rescuers from the Chamber of Secrets. Terry Boot (IIRC) finds out from
a portrait in DD's office that Harry used Godric Gryffindor's sword to
kill a basilisk and asks Harry in the Hog's Head chapter of OoP if
it's true. The implication is that neither he )a prefect in Harry's
own year) nor anyone else outside a select few knows what happened in
the Chamber of Secrets.
And Ginny, for all her upbeat, outgoing, slightly mischievous
personality, would (IMO) never have found the courage to try out for
Quidditch or defend Neville or join the DA if she were facing constant
finger-pointing as the girl who had opened the Chamber of Secrets
under Tom Riddle's control. We never see any such behavior on the part
of the other students--and surely Draco Malfoy would take the lead in
Ginny-baiting if he knew what she had done (and could insult her
without incriminating his own father). As far as I can determine, the
extent of Ginny's role is a secret that only Dumbledore, her family,
Harry, Hermione and perhaps the members of the Order know. If Draco
also knows it, he has his own reasons for remaining quiet.
As an aside, I'm not even sure that Percy believes that Diary!Tom was
a manifestation of Voldemort. Either that or he thinks that destroying
Tom destroyed Voldemort. Otherwise, his conduct in OoP is inexplicable.
