this would not prove problematic for the role of CHOICE in the series
since there really isn't any choice already for Harry. I hear it
argued all the time that Harry has no CHOICE, but I do not agree. JKR
tells us that it *is* our choices which show what we are. And while I
agree that Harry's burden is greater than others and that his choices
are narrower, he DOES have the choice to refuse to fight."

I think you misunderstood what I meant, SSSusan.
I didn't say that Harry doesn't have choices to make every day,
including whether to fight or not.
I meant that Harry never had a choice to be the Vanquisher or not. He
is, period. The Prophecy says so : "The one with the power to vanquish
the Dark Lord approaches". It doesn't say "One with the power", it
says "*The* one with the power". Harry is the only one, whether he or
anybody else wants it or likes it or not. He never had a choice : he
was born the Vanquisher.
My theory wouldn't change that. What it would change is that Harry
would have been *meant* to be the Vanquisher, that it wasn't an
accident, something that just happened.
