They had more than Harry's word for it too, there was still the fact 
of Cedric's death and Polyjuiced!Mad-Eye Moody. Yes, they said that 
Barty Jr. was acting under his own insane motives, but I wonder how 
so many people were able to ignore Cedric's death. A tragic accident? 
How often do healthy 17 (or possibly 18) year old boys drop dead? 
Yes, he had some injuries from the maze, but he was certainly alive 
when he touched the trophy. The Diggory's (I assume), were a well-
known family, the fact that their son died would not be easily 
ignored (at least by some people).
