I'd forgotten FB said that, but this is what Voldemort says to Harry
on that subject in Chamber Of Secrets:

"There are strange likenesses between us, after all. Even you must
have noticed. Both half-bloods, orphans, raised by Muggles. Probably
the only two Parselmouths to come to Hogwarts since the great
Slytherin himself We even look something alike"

Sounds to me like the ability to talk to snakes has been pretty rare
in the last thousand years, even Dumbledore can't do it.
