That makes sense to me.  I can't abide the idea of the "Slug Club," 
and I'd be willing to bet that other faculty can't either.  The fact 
that Trelawney is the only other faculty member who shows leads me 
to think others were invited and politely declined.

Ditto.  Slughorn obviously chooses students he feels will do him 
good, whom he feels will reflect well on him. It's really 
disgusting, his little club.  I can't imagine Snape being in it.  I 
can't imagine either Snape liking Slughorn, or the way he cozies up 
to the students.
