I'm mildly surprised you came to that conclusion.
I could possibly see 'cut' in the context of 'cutting someone dead' or breaking the ties
between friends but to turn them into enemies? Besides, we are told that the spell was
marked 'for enemies' /not/ 'for making enemies'.
I'm not sure that the Romans would have used 'seco' in that sense anyway.
