I think the Elder Wand is different than other wands.  Other wands
chose their owners.  Think back to Harry first trying out wands in
Ollivander's Shop.

If you believe the lore about the Elder Wand, it didn't select its
owner.  Death created it and handed over to one of the Three
Brothers.  It makes sense to me that this particular wand would be
different than other wands and could change allegiances to the one who
wins it.
