I was under the impression that Ollivander was NOT the only
person in Britain who made wands.  When Hagrid takes Harry
there, he says that it is the best - not that it is the ONLY.  And,
if you can deprive everyone else of getting good wands while
you pursue the best wand, why not.  You save him for if you
need him, but meanwhile deprive everyone else.
