Hey folks, great to see some familiar names around here. Looking
forward to discussing Order of the Phoenix with you all. Thanks for
the invite Neil!
Aloha,

THE OLD CROWD INTRO
***Name: Kaitlin Walsh
***Nicknames/IDs: ReinaKata02 on Yahoo, also known as Katita, Soccer
Mom, or El Verdadero Desastre
***Age: 23
***Family: Mom, Dad, 2 brothers and 2 sisters (all younger), plus a
dog. Lots of mayhem and lots of fun.
***Home: Out in the boondocks in Windsor, CT, USA
***Birthday, Place of Birth: March 26, Hartford, CT. I've lived in
the Hartford area my entire life.
***Education/Job/Role in Life etc: BA degrees (yes, two of them) in
International Languages and Cultures (Spanish emphasis) and
Communication (advertising) from the University of Hartford.
Currently working on my MA in Communication and teaching Intro to
Communication at Hartford. After that, I plan on applying for the
MSt program in European Literature at Oxford. No clue what I want to
do with my life--maybe teach, but I'm not sure. (Which is really
interesting since I have always said, "I would rather be a waitress
than a teacher.")
***Other things we might want to know about you: Obsessive about
Cervantes, home decorating shows (especially BBC ones), advertising,
shopping for flip-flops and purses, Target and other discount stores
and all things Latino. I speak Spanish, Italian and German--have
read the first three HP books in Spanish, would like to collect
translations in all three languages. Aries, but I follow Taurus.
Master's Thesis in progress: "An Analysis of Informational and
Cultural Content in Hispanic and Anglo Magazine Advertisements."
***First contact with Harry Potter: I think it was early 2000, when
Rosie O'Donnell was obsessing about the books. I have been hooked
since.
***Favourite Potter things (books, characters, ships, fics, objets
d'Art, general enthusing): I think I would have to go with PoA or GoF
for favorite volumes. CoS is my favorite of the two films--I have
both DVDs. I like the translations because they're usually very
badly done. I also like knicknacks with the Hogwarts School logo and
explaining to people what it is (and what the slogan "Draco Dormiens
Nunquam Titilandus" means!). Madly in love with the guy who plays
Oliver Wood in the films.
***Extent of Potter obsession: It goes in waves from moderate to
obsessive, depending on which films and merchandise are coming out.
I have a bunch of Potter paraphenalia, mostly office supplies, and
would like to get a Gryffindor Quiddich jersey if they exist (I know
someone wrote that before me, but I want one too!).
***Other interests/activities: Latin music--and not just the pop
stuff you hear on generic American radio. I am a moderator for the
Alejandro Sanz club "International Fan Club Amiga Mia," and I got to
fulfill my longtime dream of meeting him last summer :)
I am a craft addict, and can often be found buying weird stuff like
flowered paper and decoupage kits so I can decorate a birdhouse or
something later on. Part of this stems from my love of home
decorating shows, like "Trading Spaces" and "Changing Rooms." I
always see little crafts on those shows that I want to replicate.
I can be found reading anything from Golden Age Spanish literature to
textbooks on intercultural communication, depending on what kind of
mood I'm in.
Hmmm...what else...I like web design and am always in the middle of a
project. I like traveling, shopping, and doing things people don't
expect of me: one summer I tried out for the Weakest Link, last year
I traveled to NYC with 10 girls I had never met before.
If I think of anything else, you will definitely find out about it!
***Current/recent reading: Just finished "The Dirty Girls Social
Club" and "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" (from the Shopaholic series).
About to start rereading "Fuenteovejuna" and "El Ingenioso Hidalgo
Don Quijote de La Mancha," as well as books for my thesis...
***Current/recent listening: Ricky Martin's newest album, "Almas del
Silencio." Also in the CD player on a regular basis: "Un Dia
Normal" by Juanes, "Dejame Entrar" by Carlos Vives, "MTV Unplugged"
by Alejandro Sanz, anything by Manu Chao, Bacilos, "Back in the US"
by Paul McCartney, and "Disney's Greatest" just to name a few things.
***Current/recent viewing: Haven't seen anything in the theater in a
while. Recently rented "2 Weeks Notice" on DVD, and it was cute. I
also saw "Todo Sobre Mi Madre" recently, which was really good,
and "Amelie" a while back which was excellent. Looking forward to
seeing "Finding Nemo" and "Legally Blonde 2" in the theaters soon.
At this very second, I'm watching "Jack" on Telemundo.
On television, the only things I will stop to watch are Trading
Spaces, Changing Rooms, the Cosby Show, and David Letterman.
Otherwise, I am a channel surfer and will stop whenever it looks
interesting.
